'Every Brilliant Thing' is one-person Black Curtain show

| September 20, 2018 2:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. presents its first Black Curtain Theatre production of the season with “Every Brilliant Thing” at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23.

1. Ice cream 2. Water fights 3. Things with stripes 4. Staying up past your bedtime to watch TV 5. Rollercoasters. These are just a few items on a list of things worth living for compiled by a young girl trying to ease her mother’s depression at the start of Duncan Macmillian’s charming new play “Every Brilliant Thing.” Through adulthood, she learns the deep significance that the ever-expanding list has on her own life, as she goes to college, falls in love, and builds a home. Called “heart-wrenching and hilarious” by The Guardian, “Every Brilliant Thing” is a moving and compassionate tribute to the irrepressible resilience inside us all and a reminder to find delight in the every day. The play is also a testament to the power of storytelling as it engages members of the audience to help tell its story in this immersive experience.

Directed by Nancy Nei, “Every Brilliant Thing” is a one-person show starring Scarlett Schindler as the narrator. This show is a reunion, of sorts, as Nei directed and Schindler starred in Whitefish Theatre Co.’s production of “Always…Patsy Cline.”

“This play is sure to touch everyone in some way,” Nei said. “For those that have had difficult times in their lives, ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ acts as a reminder that we can find hope and joy by remembering the little important things in life. I have read reviews that this show has a way of letting the audience bond with each other in a way that does not often happen with other plays.”

Viewers are reminded that as a Black Curtain production, there will minimal staging, no set or props, and the actor will be reading from a script.
