Two Canadians are on top of the leaderboard after the first round of the 81st International Labor Day Golf Tournament on Saturday at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.

Eric Allard of Calgary shot a 5-under 66 for a 1-shot lead on Logan Iverson of Kalispell and Justin Dorr of Spokane.

Cody Sherrill of Kalispell and Shawn Tucker are tied for fourth with 63s.

Fourteen golfers are within five shots of Allard. In that group is Logan Lindholm, the defending champion from Kalispell. He’s tied for 10th place with five other golfers, all at 66.

Kali Gordon of Okotoks, a three-time champion, leads the women’s field with her 3-over 77.

Debbie Hadley and Amber Winkler, both of Kalispell, are three shots back.

Wendy Madison of Kalispell is fourth with an 83 and Janell Tanner-O’Neal, also of Kalispell, is fifth with an 84.

Tournament play continues today and the 54-hole stroke-play event concludes on Monday.

All competitors play the shorter Cameron Nine course twice one day and the longer and more challenging Championship 18 the other two days.

With 178 players, the men are divided into six flights by handicap, while the women are paired in three flights.

Tonight brings the mixed derby, featuring the top 10 men and women based on Saturday’s scores. Parimutual betting will be available on the 10 teams.

All events are open to the public.
