Fearless bear stares down driver in Bigfork

A person called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office to report a black bear on Bridge Street in Bigfork that seemed unafraid of people. The man saw the bruin across the street from Bethany Lutheran Church and a block from a daycare. When the driver yelled and bumped his siren, the bear just looked at him and before walking away.

Someone reported that two teenaged boys in a red pickup truck stole two boxes of “Twisted Tea” from a Bigfork business.

The owner of a storage facility received a call from a tenant that some of the units had been broken into. The caller also said it seemed there may be a person living in one of the units because there were empty food cans and it appeared that someone defecated in it.

The owner of a Ruger SR .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol reported it was stolen from his vehicle. The gun has a 17-round extended magazine that was loaded with hollow points.

A deputy had to talk to a man who had played his stereo too loud. The sound of the thumping bass prevented the caller from sleeping. The rocker said he would turn down the volume.

A stray ram was found on Jay’s property. The horns were cut off, but he was willing to hold on to it for a few days. If no one claimed it, Jay said he would call Ernie. The ram was placed in a corral for safe-keeping.

Someone found an older black Lab that appeared to be in distress, possibly due to a testicle infection. An animal control officer said the infection didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

A woman said her sister mistakenly called 911 while she was looking for her glasses.
