Kalispell Lakers AA, A win tournament openers

An 11-run first inning set the tone for the Kalispell Lakers AA in a blow out 16-1 victory over the Boys of Summer on Friday night in first-day play of the AA Canadian Days American Legion baseball tournament at Griffin Field.

Taylor Morton went 3 for 3 for the Lakers and scored four times.

AJ Jones, 2 for 4, drove in four runs.

Randy Stultz, Morton, Eric Seaman and Dawson Smith had two RBIs each.

Seaman and Smith doubled while Jones tripled.

Sam Elliott and Morton combined on a 3-hitter sharing the mound duties. Elliott went the first three innings. He had five strike outs and no walks. Morton struck out three and walked none.

In Friday’s other AA tournament game, the Calgary Redbirds beat the Spokane Northstars 3-2.

The Lakers have two games today — 2 p.m. versus Spokane Northstars and 7 p.m. versus Calgary Redbirds.

The tournament ends Sunday.

Ryan McDonald hit four doubles and drove in five runs, Payton Davisson doubled and also had five RBIs and Wes Palmer, Jayden Dillon, Chad Queen and Luke Halland combined on a no-hitter as the Kalispell Lakers A ripped the Olds Spitfires in opening day action of the Class A Canadian Days American Legion baseball tournament at Archie Roe Field.

The Lakers, up 8-0 after three innings, tallied 10 runs in the fifth to end it on the run rule.

Dillon doubled twice and had three RBIs.

Palmer pitched the first two innings. He fanned four and issued no walks.

Queen went 1 1/3 innings, striking out three and walking one.

In the other A matchup of the day, Mission Valley Mariners beat the Cranbrook Bandits 19-1.

The Lakers continue with tournament play today — 10:30 a.m. versus Mission Valley Mariners and 4:30 p.m. versus Cranbrook Bandits.

Mission Valley faces the Olds Spitfires at 1 p.m.

The tournament ends Sunday.
