Free-range cats mark their spot

Someone called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office about stray cats “marking” his property. The person was advised to call county animal patrol since there are no ordinances about at-large cats.

A caller wanted an officer to talk to the “phone book guy” about placing books in mailboxes. The person thought it was against the law to do that without being a mailworker.

A person who has been receiving threatening phone calls for the last one and a half years said an ex-former sister-in-law and former President Barack Obama were threatened.

A caller reported seeing 10 people leave a residence who all appeared to be “on something.”

A man was cited by the Whitefish Police Department after he was found sleeping at the east end of someone’s yard.

The manager of an apartment complex called about graffiti being painted on the power boxes.

Someone called after witnessing a diesel truck shoot a large plume of black smoke into the face of a cyclist.

A Baker Avenue resident called to request extra police patrols in her neighborhood after transients came on to her property over the weekend.

A woman called to report her lost wallet, which contained $383 and three credit cards.

A citizen called to report an unsecured door at a business on U.S. 93. The officers found the building empty and locked the door.

A caller reported someone moving the garden gnome and defecating on it. The person said he was considering putting up a video camera to capture potential future crimes.

When an employee of an area business arrived at work, she discovered the front window was smashed by a rock. No one entered the business.

A person called about a black bear near the beach at a Montana Avenue address. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks were going to set a trap for it.

Another caller reported seeing a very large black bear in the field near U.S. 93.

A woman called the Kalispell Police Department to report a theft of important papers, including her divorce papers, social security card, birth certificate and others. She believed her husband, who had moved out, broke into her residence and took them.

A man waiting for a bus ride caused a disturbance for a caller who reported that the man told him he had about four months to live. Officers spoke to the man and determined he was OK.

A 911 hangup call may have turned into a difficult situation for an 18-year-old who was supposed to be watching a younger sibling. The 12-year-old female said she accidentally called 911 while playing with her phone. When an officer spoke to the father, he said he’d handle the situation when he got home.

A janitor cleaning a phone also mistakenly called 911.

A man screaming for help while laying on the porch at a restaurant said he needed to sleep, according to a caller. The man was unsure of his name or address.
