Bigfork wrestling had a promising weekend in Ronan Friday and Saturday at the Western Montana Duals.

The team went 11-8 Friday, which was their most successful day so far. Shade Youso won his first three matches of the year at 132 pounds, wrestling with more confidence, head coach Josh Feller said.

“He wrestled more technically and it paid off with some wins,” Feller said.

Connor Meyer finally got to wrestle this year after recovering from an injury. He started off his season at 120 pounds going 4-0 on Friday and 1-1 on Saturday.

“Connor looked good and he will only get better as he gets more matches under his belt,” Feller said.

Tate Chenard won a tough match by points against Andrew Glynn of Glacier at 145 pounds. Chenard was awarded the winning point at the end of the third period when Glynn locked hands, awarding Chenard with a penalty point. It was his second victory of the year.

Wrestling will head to Plains on Friday and the Ted Kato Invitational in Thompson Falls on Saturday with a strong team now that all the wrestlers have returned from winter break.

Jan. 22 is the only home meet for Bigfork and will be their senior night. The team, which is one of Bigfork’s club sports, is raffling a custom outdoor fire pit, which will be drawn on Jan. 22. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at any home basketball game or by contacting Feller. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to help purchase a new wrestling mat.
