The Valkyries soccer team chalked up their first loss of the season on Saturday against Park High School in Livingston.

The loss came after a 3-0 victory over Belgrade on Friday. Head coach Mike Marchetti said the girls were tired.

Against Belgrade, Bigfork didn’t score until the 37th minute of the game against Belgrade when Megan Pancoast found the net. Georgia Cleasby scored again in the 51st minute and Kassandra Butterfield was assisted by Ceciley Taylor in the 66th minute for the last goal.

Livingston worked goalkeepers Ally Pancoast and Celeste Rehbein, taking 11 shots on goal. Pancoast came out of the first half with eight saves.

While Bigfork got in three shots, none found the net and Park won 3-0.

“It was the first loss of the year so the girls were a bit disappointed,” Marchetti said.

However, with a packed schedule of conference games coming up, the Vals are looking forward to their match at Polson on Thursday.

“This is where our real season starts,” Marchetti said. “Polson is going to be a tough game; every year it’s one of our challenges.”

After Thursday’s match with Polson, the Vals will host Columbia Falls on Saturday at 2 p.m. and travel to Whitefish on Tuesday.

“We’re setting our sights on trying to play beyond Whitefish’s level,” Marchetti said. “Both Jens Sundem and I are confident the girls have the skills and the drive.”
