Donald Lee Herbert, age 71, passed away June 22, 2014, at his residence in West Glacier.

He was raised in Columbus Ohio and joined the Marines at the age of 17. Don loved life and lived it to its fullest. He was a great father, husband and friend and was an inspiration not only to family but friends as well.

Don met his late wife and soul mate Jette Andersen while stationed in Southern California. They were married and moved to the small mountain town of Julian, Calif.

Don started his career with Pacific Telephone as well as his family. He later moved the family to Ramona, Calif. and resided there for around eight years. He then moved the family to Escondido, Calif., where he remained until retirement in 2002.

Don worked and retired as a microwave radio technician for Pacific Bell. He was a pioneer in modern communication technology and loved doing his job.

Upon retirement, Don and Jette moved to West Glacier. Don purchased the property in the mid-1960s while cutting trails in Glacier Park prior to meeting Jette. There they built their retirement dream home where they enjoyed their final years.

Don will surely be missed by all that knew him. He was an amazing human being and all who knew him have been truly blessed.

He is survived by his son Paul Herbert.

A private service for friends and family will be held at Don’s residence in mid-August.

A memorial bench will be placed in Glacier National Park in his and his wife’s honor.
