The art work of the Robert Emerson Huck is now on display at the Columbia Falls Branch Library. The work, often dark and moody, showcases Huck’s considerable talents.

Huck was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Kalispell. He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and then attended the University of Montana, Colorado College and the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.

In 1952, he received a master’s of fine arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was also a Fulbright Fellow studying in Italy from 1954 to 1955.

Huck was both a printmaker and a painter, and his work appeared in numerous exhibits and shows across the U.S., including Washington, D.C. and New York. He died in an automobile accident on March 13, 1961.

The library show consists of eight pieces of his work, including scenes from Glacier National Park, a self-portrait, a painting of the mythical Paul Bunyan with Babe the Blue Ox, and a somber piece of a woman holding a child.
