Winter holiday season approaches

Letter from the editor

With the fall sports season coming to a close last week at the Western B Divisional Volleyball Tournament, you may be looking for something to occupy your time until basketball in December.

It's not even Thanksgiving yet, but that doesn't mean there aren't ways to get festive and out in the community.

Keep your eyes open this week in the Valley. You might catch a glimpse of the Bigfork Elves this weekend, cutting trees and fixing lights in preparation for decorating the Village and the lighting ceremony the following week.

This group is always looking for new Elves to join and volunteer their time to prepare the Village for the holidays so consider getting involved.

You'll have a chance to see the Frostys on parade at 4 p.m. Sunday at Lakeside Elementary School. If you go, you'll also be able to enjoy a spaghetti dinner.

These two events this weekend are just the beginning of the many holiday happenings in the works in the area.

Though we still don't have snow in Bigfork, the winter holiday season is rapidly descending upon us. And there are plenty of ways to take part.

We'll try to keep you in the loop about upcoming events in the Valley.

Check out our community section each week for event details. This week you'll find it on A6.

Looking for Jacob

His byline has been missing from the Bigfork Eagle and West Shore News for several weeks now, but we are still getting calls looking for former reporter Jacob Doran.

Though he said farewell to readers through a column in August, Doran has still been around writing about Glacier hikes, local artists and the Bigfork Playhouse Children's Theatre for the past two months.

Doran, who wrote for us for five years, is in the process of moving with his family to Washington's Skagit Valley, north of Seattle.

As many of you have noted, Doran always paid special attention to making sure the local schools, arts and outdoors got covered in the papers.

We will try our best to carry on the coverage he provided for these facets of the Bigfork and West Shore areas in his absence, but we will need your help. If you have story ideas or information about upcoming events, we ask that you call the Bigfork Eagle office at 837-5131 or e-mail editor@bigforkeagle.com.
