Don't be duped by CI-97

| September 13, 2006 11:00 PM

Deregulation of our energy providers was sold to us as a simplistic notion — more competition in our energy market would decrease rates. With every utility bill, I'm paying the high cost of that simple-sounding idea.

Cap state spending and make government more efficient — what's wrong with that? Well, it's another simplistic idea being promoted by an out-of-state group that doesn't know how it will harm Montanans.

Colorado tried the same spending cap for more than 10 years, but voters suspended this bad idea because it hurt schools, senior services, fire protection, roads and more.

It will even raise our property taxes. Now an Illinois group headed by a millionaire New Yorker is promoting this failed idea in other states, including Montana. How did we get on the sucker list?

Like deregulation of energy, don't be duped by into supporting CI-97. Read the fine print. We'll all pay for CI-97 for years to come.
