Get western at audtions for Children's Theatre musical

| January 1, 2020 2:00 AM

The Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre invites students in grades two through six to audition, Tuesday, Jan. 7, for the cast of “The Wild, Wild, Wildest West,” a Western style musical full of heroes, villains and damsels in distress.

Slick and wealthy Richard Coldheart must marry Polly Wanda Cracker to control the Cracker property. However, it’s Polly’s homely sister, Prunella, who wants to marry him. Meanwhile, the hero, Sheriff Wayne John, has his hands full surviving the hilarious antics of well-meaning, but not-too-bright Deputy Doowrong. A bundle of villains, including Snydley Dastardly, Kid Kid and Calamity Jan, then stage an attempt to take over Low Humidity Chasm.

Auditions will be held at the Bigfork Playhouse Children’s Theatre after-school center at 833 Grand Drive on Tuesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. for second and third grades, and from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for fourth through sixth graders. Performances are scheduled for Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, 7-8 at 7:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 9.

This production calls for a large cast of around 40 players. Actors pay nothing to audition but are charged $50 to be a part of the show if cast. Players are asked to prepare a 30-second monologue or short selection from another play, poem or book. Extra materials are on-hand at the theatre if needed and no experience is necessary to audition. Actors should be prepared to learn and perform a song as part of the audition and are asked to wear comfortable shoes.

Those who are not interested in stage work, but would like to be involved can give the theatre a call to volunteer.

The theatre is looking for assistance from both parents and students to help with the technical aspects of the production to include: building sets, props, costumes, lights and sound.
