Scouts BSA thanks community for support

| February 26, 2020 2:00 AM

Thank you, Bigfork, for your support of family scouting within the Boy Scouts of America!

Bigfork is BIG on family. Living in this small community, you know just about everyone, and you look out for your neighbor the same as they look out for you. We are, in a sense, a large family.

It’s that same fierce spirit of family that originally prompted the Bigfork Cub Scout Pack 4923 to beta test “family scouting” in their unit, supported by their chartered organization, Bethany Lutheran. The families came all with the same goal of being together in scouting. But where would these young ladies bridge when they are done with Cub Scouts?

To support our sisters in scouting, a new Scouts BSA unit (all female youth) was founded at Bigfork Community United Methodist Church.

Troop 1916 was named in honor of the year Jeannette Rankin was elected as the first female politician in the United States House of Representatives. This seems fitting as these young ladies have had to be ambassadors about what it means to them to be a female scout and why Scouts BSA is the right place for them.

The village of Bigfork keeps on supporting its community family through the purchase of popcorn, firewood, and pitch wood. We’ve also been gifted with some camping equipment, and volunteers have stepped in to be merit badge counselors. Troop 1916 wants to formally thank the villagers of Bigfork for their support of youth programs and family scouting!
