Glacier girls soccer wins Western AA conference title

In the last regular season home game and on senior night, the Glacier Wolfpack girls soccer team won the Western AA conference by beating Missoula Big Sky 3-1 on Tuesday at Glacier High School.

Missoula Hellgate and Helena High tied and Glacier (8-3-1) needed a win to clinch the conference title. And they did.

“I’ m proud of my team for finishing out the game strong and sticking through it when it mattered most,” Glacier senior Alma Patrick said.

Glacier has one more game left before playoffs on Thursday against Sentinel at 11 a.m.

“Big Sky is an outstanding team with many weapons, they made us work for this tough win,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said. “Big Sky never let down, one of the western conference’s toughest offenses. Our back line held on to get a great result.”

Flathead was shut out by Missoula Sentinel ina Western AA game at home.

Aisley Allen of Sentinel scored the game’s only goal.

Flathead’s final regular season game is 12 p.m. on Thursday.

The Bravettes are 6-6-1.

Glacier 6, Big Sky 0

The Glacier Wolfpack shut out Missoula Big Sky in a Western AA game on Tuesday, in the final home game of the season, which was also senior night.

“We started all of our seniors and they all got good minutes on the field,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “A good opportunity to pay tribute to their dedication over the years ... and reflect on how quickly four years goes by. I’m just very proud.”

Glacier is unbeaten in regulation (3-0-2) in its past five games.

Sam Ells and Micah Heil each scored two goals for the Wolfpack, who are 6-3-4 overall.

The last regular season game is Thursday in Missoula against Sentinel at 1 p.m.

Jalen Hawes and Eric Gardner scored but the Flathead Braves fell to Missoula Sentinel in a Western AA game.

“Tonight was senior night,” Flathead coach Zach Brenneman said. “It was really great. We were able to honor seniors who have put in time and effort to this program. As a coach I value the hard work and leadership they bring to this team.”

With one game remaining on their regular season slate, the Braves are 6-6-1.

They’ll take on Missoula Big Sky for a 2 p.m. game on Wednesday in Missoula.
