Flathead's Mercer in second place at AA golf

GREAT FALLS —The Bozeman boys and Butte girls lead all teams in the State AA golf tournament after the first day at Great Falls’ Meadow Lark Country Club in Great Falls. The Hawk boys shot 309, and the Bulldog girls shot 356.

Flathead’s Marcella Mercer is currently second among the girls, four shots behind Carrie Carpenter of Billings West. Butte’s Butte’s Ella Prigge is third with an 82.

On the boys side, defending champion Justus Verge of Bozeman leads with a score of 71. His twin brother Jordan trails him at 74, while Butte’s Kaven Noctor is third with a 79.

Glacier’s Tyler Avery shot an 84 on Monday and is in ninth place.

The Bozeman boys are well ahead of the pack — second place Missoula Sentinel is 37 strokes back at 346 and Helena Capital is third at 347.

The Glacier boys are in fifth place overall after the first day, with a 361 team score. The Flathead Braves are in eighth, with a 368.

The defending champion Bozeman girls are second after day one action with a team score of 362. Helena High is third at 366. The Flathead girls shot an even 400 on Monday and are in eighth place. The Glacier girls are 10th at 417.

Play begins at 10 a.m. today.
