Economic update explores 'silver tsunami'

| July 30, 2019 2:00 AM

The Montana Chamber Foundation and Bureau of Business and Economic Research stops in Kalispell on Thursday for the 14th annual Economic Update series.

In addition to its traditional state and national economic projections, this year’s theme, “The Silver Tsunami: Are Montana’s Businesses Ready?” will focus on the impact of Montana’s aging and migrating workforce.

“Workforce development is a major issue for business in every sector,” said Todd O’Hair, executive director of the Montana Chamber Foundation. “As Montana’s population grows older, the strains on Montana’s labor pool will be felt even more. The Montana Chamber and Montana Chamber Foundation are prepared to lead the business community in identifying specific solutions to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.”

Patrick Barkey, director of the University of Montana Bureau of Business and Economic Research, will be among the key presenters during the 90-minute session.

The Kalispell update begins at noon Thursday at the Hilton Garden Inn.
