Kay Evans Scott, 78

| July 28, 2019 2:00 AM

Kay Evans Scott passed away Friday, July 19, 2019.

Kay was born Oct. 8, 1939, in Windom, Minnesota, to Allan and Billy Evans. She was the middle child. Older sister Mitzi and younger sister Mary Lee made up the family. She graduated from Windom High School in 1958 and while working at Toro Manufacturing, she met Gene Scott. It was love at first sight and they eloped and married on Nov. 9, 1959, in Minneapolis. Their sons Marc and Jeff were born in Minnesota and then in 1969 they all headed west to a funny-named town called Kalispell, Montana. Kay cried all the way as she was leaving all her family. But in a short time they all followed … mother, sisters, aunt, cousins. Her husband always joked that he’d moved west to get away from family. They settled in Pablo. Husband Gene worked at Pablo Plum Creek Timber Co. And Kay went into woodcrafts. She built thousands of birdhouses and her little wooden plaques with humorous sayings on them went around the world.

After Gene retired in 1994, they built a new home in Polson and went south in the winter and so enjoyed traveling. When her husband discovered he was an artist and began painting wildlife on feathers, Kay decided to join him and another career for both of them was begun. They went to Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, for several years as demonstrators at the National Festival of Craftsmen. They attended various art and craft shows and had their work in many galleries.

There are four surviving grandchildren, Kimberly, Brandon, Brittany and Tia; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Scott; son Jeff, daughter Tiffany; and Kay’s father and mother.
