Prep Basketball Lady Lions earn 5th straight victory

EUREKA – Maggie Graves’ double-double helped propel Eureka (8-2) to its fifth consecutive victory by beating Anaconda 44-37 in Class B nonconference girls basketball play on Saturday.

Graves scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds.

Sienna Utter led Eureka in scoring with 24 points and had three steals.

For Anaconda, Isabel Salzenberger scored 16 points and Ariona Mattson scored 10.

Eureka’s next action is Friday at home with Class A Whitefish.

LIBBY — Whitefish edged Libby in Northwest A play, led by Alli Collins’ 15-point performance.

The Lady Loggers (8-4 overall, 4-3 in conference), led 20-8 at the half. Whitefish (3-9, 2-5) outscored Libby 10-7 in the fourth quarter.

Samantha Miller added 6 points for Libby.

For the Bulldogs, Claire Carloss scored 6 points and Jasmine Matern and Marlee Bender each scored 4.

RONAN — Browning thrashed Ronan to remain undefeated in Northwest A play.

The Indians (11-1 overall, 7-0 conference) led 45-17 at the half and outscored Ronan 20-1 in the third quarter.

Justin Burd was Browning’s high scorer with 14 points. Derek Sharp scored 13.

Anthony Camel led Ronan (3-8, 2-4) with nine points and Randy Finley had 6.

LIBBY — Whitefish edged Libby by three points in a tight Northwest A battle.

The Bulldogs improve to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Libby is 6-6 and 2-5.

Whitefish outscored Libby in all but the fourth quarter, where Libby scored 17 points and Whitefish 14.

Ryan Kemm led the Bulldogs’ charge with 20 points. Dillon Botner added 10.

For Libby, Ryggs Johnston scored 23 and Jay Beagle checked in with 8 points.

Libby hosts Class B Troy on Thursday while Whitefish plays at Class B Eureka on Friday.

HAMILTON — Tanner Goligoski scored 23 points as Hamilton trounced Columbia Falls in nonconference play.

The Wildcats fall to 1-11 overall and are 0-5 in conference play. Hamilton is 11-2 and 5-1.

The Broncs had two other players in double digits — Hunter Omid’s 15 points and Carson Rostad’s 10 points.

Dillon Shipp scored 9 points for Columbia Falls and Drew Morgan had 8.

Braedon Sawyer and Eli Saltenberger shared the scoring lead with 11 points each for the Copperheads.

Jake Kindel scored 13 and Alex Lowe had 9 points for the Lions.
