Free concert

Students of Paul and Kay Gonsorchik and Leah Farnes put on a free concert at 7 p.m. today at the Flathead High School auditorium. Music styles include classical, jazz, country, rock, blues and more. Thirteen bands and one classical guitarist will perform.

Artists whose music will be played include TDisturbed, Garth Brooks, AC/DC, Eagles, Metallica, Cake, BB King and others.

Woodturning demo

Glacier Woodturners give a free woodturning demonstration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kalispell Center Mall.

Climate workshop

Flathead Valley Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby hosts a free Climate Advocate Training workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at ImagineIF Library, Kalispell. The workshop is free and the public is invited.

Sportsman’s Banquet

Kalispell Church of the Nazarene has its Sportsman’s Banquet and Auction Saturday.

The annual family event celebrates all categories of sportsmen, is free and open to the public. There will be an auction, raffles and entertainment. The money raised will go to provide summer camp scholarships for kids and teens. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the dinner starts at 6 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a main dish (harvested fish or game are encouraged) plus, if your last name starts with A through L, bring a dessert; and M through Z, a salad.

The church is located at 1295 Whitefish Stage Road.

Sled dog races

The Flathead Classic Sled Dog Race takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Dog Creek Lodge 3 miles northwest of Olney on U.S. 93 North.

Flathead Classic will have a six- and four-dog sprint class followed by a junior sprint class, a one- and two-dog fat bike event, and a one- and two-dog skijoring event both Saturday and Sunday morning.

The six-dog, 18-mile sprint class will start each day at 9 a.m. followed by the four dog, junior, fat bike and skijoring. There will be wood-fired pizzas and other food available at Dog Creek Lodge. All humans are invited but dogs need to stay home.

Skijoring is an event where the skier wears cross-country or skate skis and poles and a belt with a bungee and line that attaches to a dog in harness. The dog(s) pull the skier along the trail.

Decoration removal

The Whitefish Shines organization takes down the Whitefish winter decorations for the season on Sunday. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Third Street and Central Avenue in downtown Whitefish.
