The National Park Service, in partnership with Glacier National Park Conservancy, will host an evening about Sperry Chalet on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Red Lion Hotel in Kalispell.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. in the Fireside Room with an industry night for construction contractors interested in bidding on the 2019 Phase 2 of the Sperry rebuilding project.

The Sprague Fire in late August 2017 gutted the two-story dormitory. A detached kitchen and dining room structure escaped major damage after firefighters extinguished a spot fire in the eaves.

In June 2018, the National Park Service announced plans to award a $4.08 million contract to Dick Anderson Construction for phase one of the dormitory building’s rebuild.

Phase I construction began July 9 and was completed during the fall of 2018.

Following the contractors session, the Glacier National Park Conservancy will host a public open-house celebration in Ballroom A from 6 to 8 p.m. to reflect on the success of Phase 1, and talk about the future of the public-private partnership. Videos, photos, and stories of the wintertime monitoring overflights and construction season will be shared. Sperry Chalet concessioner Kevin Warrington will share his thoughts on the project, and Anderson Hallas Architects, the firm selected to complete project design, will share highlights and design challenges from their perspective.

The event is free, and open to the public.

Also, Glacier National Park and Denver Service Center staff will be on hand to answer questions from the public and provide a look ahead to the 2019 construction season.

The National Park Service expects to announce and award the construction contract for Phase 2 of the Sperry project later this spring.

More information about Sperry Chalet can be found on the park’s website.
