Dorothy Jean 'Jean' Battin Linne, 94

Dorothy Jean Linne passed away on March 7, 2019.

Dorothy Jean was born on Feb. 8, 1925, in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in Minneapolis. She met James M. Linne, whom she married at the Episcopal church in Edina, Minnesota.

They raised five children, all of whom have survived her. They are James M. “Mitch” Linne Jr., Katherine Fleming, Mary Jane Hillstrom, Mark Linne and Stephen Linne. She is also survived by four grandsons, Justin, William, Jacob and Kevin, as well as great-granddaughter Brooklyn.

While raising her children, Jean taught elementary school. Education for herself and for others was always a critical part of her life. She had graduated from the University of Minnesota, and later attained a master’s in teaching reading from Eastern Montana College in Billings.

Jean also loved the out of doors. She hiked and camped in the forests of California to the Appalachian Trail, at times with Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Although she lived in many parts of the country, including Clearwater, Florida; her final place of residence was Whitefish.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on March 30 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Whitefish.
