GOLF: Stetzner sizzles at Old Works; Bigfork boys finish third

Caleb Stetzner shot a personal best, along with a school record, 6-under 66, to easily claim medalist honors at the Anaconda/Deer Lodge Invitational on Thursday at Old Works Golf Course.

Boys played from the copper tees on the par 72, 6,776-yard layout.

Brandon McIver holds the course record with a 65, shot during the opening round of the U.S. Amateur qualifier in 2013.

Stetzner was five under on the back nine (31), which included an eagle on the par 5 11th hole, four birdies and a bogey on No. 17.

Stetzner, who was the 2014 Class A state individual champion, and Jackson Wagner shared the old school record at 70.

Libby freshman Ryggs Johnston, who had won three straight medalist honors, settled for second place with an even-par round.

Joseph Potkonjak of Bigfork tied for sixth with his 80 and Jonny Cielak of Libby was 10th with an 84.

Townsend, 329, won the team title. Manhattan, 342, was second and Bigfork, 355, third.

Libby was ninth.

Lynzee Dexter of Townsend took the top honors for girls with her 83. Sydney Rockford of Three Forks was second, 87.

Lily Feeback of Libby and Popla Swangsawai of Eureka both had 102 totals to tie for ninth.

Three Forks, 380, claimed the girls team title. Ronan, 434, was second, Thompson Falls, 443, third and Eureka, 452, fourth.
