Bigfork volleyballers win two, place second

The Bigfork High School volleyball team picked up wins over Plains and Troy last week, which left them in second place in the district.

Bigfork will compete against Troy in the district tournament in Plains at noon Saturday. They will play again at either 4:30 or 6 p.m. depending on if they win or lose.

First year coach Melody Strauss was pleased with her team’s effort.

Against Plains, Bigfork won 25-21, 25-17 and 25-16.

Alanis Stallknecht led the Valkyries with nine aces and eight digs. Lana Berg had five aces and five digs, while Josie Spoklie had 23 assists and five digs. Abby Amidon contributed with eight kills.

Against Troy, Bigfork won 25-14, 25-9, 23-25, 25-23.

Marissa Hiza led with 13 kills and seven digs, while Spoklie had 33 assists and seven digs. Stallknecht continued her hot serving with nine aces, while Kalia Wicklund had six. Tessa Robertson contributed with 11 kills.

Bigfork completes the regular season 5-3 in District 7B, 8-9 overall.

Thompson Falls won the district with an 8-0 record. Troy (3-5) is third, followed by Eureka (2-6) and Plains (2-6). Eureka and Plains will have a play-in match at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the winner to play Thompson Falls at 1:30 p.m.
