Flathead Valley Community College Theatre will round up its summer repertory season with “Once Upon a Mattress,” an outrageous adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.” FVCC student and professional actor Joshua Kelly directs the Broadway hit that starred Carol Burnett and Sarah Jessica Parker. “Once Upon a Mattress” will be performed in the FVCC Black Box Theatre, inside the Arts and Technology Building, on Thursday and Friday, July 15 and 16 and Aug. 5 and 6, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 17 and Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 available in advance online at www.fvcc.edu or at the FVCC Bookstore Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Remaining tickets will be available at each performance. The Flathead Lakers will present their Stewardship Award to Gov. Brian Schweitzer and British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell at the nonprofit’s annual meeting on July 15. Schweitzer will present the keynote address, and Flathead Lake Biological Station director Jack Stanford will present the annual State of the Lake report. The Glacier Camera Club and Whitefish Community Foundation will celebrate Glacier National Park’s centennial and the Foundation’s 10-year anniversary with a free reception at the O’Shaughnessy on Thursday, July 15, from 5-8 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and a cash wine/beer bar. Photographs on display will be for sale, and profits from the show will benefit the Whitefish Community Foundation’s Community Grants Fund and the O’Shaughnessy. The photographers will speak at 6:30 p.m., and the exhibit will be on display through Aug. 20.

Staff and volunteers at the Conrad Museum in Kalispell will appear in costume during a dramatic reading of “Charlie: An Extraordinary Life,” the story of the life and times of Kalispell’s founder, Charles Conrad, at the mansion on Thursday, July 15, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Presented as reader’s theater, the work was written by local historian Jan Hardesty and based on extensive new research. The story begins with Charles’ participation in the American Civil War, then covers his rise to wealth in the shipping business in Fort Benton, Montana, and then on to his role in preserving the American Bison and negotiating treaties as a representative of the Blackfeet Nation.

DREAM Adaptive Recreation Inc. will offer several outdoor recreational opportunities this summer for individuals with disabilities, including rafting and water sports. In addition to standard water-skiing, DREAM has specialized equipment that allows individuals in wheelchairs and with mobility difficulties to water-ski in a sitting position.
