Short day for Flathead, Glacier on the tennis courts

Print Article

At this point of the season, and the way the weather has played out for spring sports thus far, you might say one out of two is far better than none.

Glacier and Flathead managed to get at least one AA tennis dual in on Saturday on the courts at Flathead Valley Community College before getting rained out once again.

The Glacier girls claimed a 5-3 victory over Great Falls C.M. Russell with wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles and Nos. 2-3-4 doubles.

The Glacier boys were leading CMR 4-3 when the day was finally washed out for good. Glacier won at Nos. 1 and 4 singles and Nos. 2 and 4 doubles.

The No. 3 doubles match was suspended with Kyle Turner and Logan Samples of Glacier up in sets in the third after splitting the first two 6-2, 2-4.

The Flathead boys and girls were washed out against C.M. Russell, but had a strong showing against Great Falls High.

The Bravettes, with wins at No. 1 singles and Nos. 1, 2 and 4 doubles tied the Bison 4-4.

The Braves were leading 5-2 when the No. 1 doubles match was rained out. Flathead’s Brian Wells and Liam Rehbein dropped the first set 3-6, but rebounded to win the next 7-6 (4). They were up 1-0 when the dual was called.

“Strong doubles performances today from our girls combined with a tough three-set win at No. 1 singles from Emma Hawkins gave us an even finish with Great Falls High,” Flathead coach Jimmy Cripe said.

“We swept boys singles with Great Falls High and Brian (Wells) and Liam (Rehbein) were leading in the third set before rain washed us out for the day. Disappointed in another rainout, but happy we got some play in.”

Glacier and Flathead, weather permitting, are back on the courts Tuesday versus Columbia Falls at FVCC at 1 and 4 p.m., respectively.
