David Lillard, who has led the Glacier and Flathead high school swimming teams the last five seasons, has resigned as head coach, the schools announced on Thursday.

Lillard helped guide the programs to a host of records including a second-place performance by the Glacier boys in 2013, the school’s only trophy at state.

In the years following the trophy season, the Glacier boys finished fifth, ninth, eighth and sixth. The Glacier girls were seventh his first season, followed by finishes of 13th, fifth, fifth and 13th.

The Flathead boys have struggled to get out of the blocks in his time, finishing last of 14 teams at the state meet in four of his five years and 13th in 2015. The Bravettes had two last place finishes in that time, with 10th place performances last season and in 2013 and a 12th place finish in 2015.

Individually, Jordan Loyda won the 50 freestyle in 2013 to claim the only individual title in his tenure. Glacier also claimed relay titles in the 200 and 400 relay in 2013 and individuals or relays placed in the top three 20 times in his five years.

Lillard will remain on as a teacher in the Glacier High science department.
